One Year Ago today our baby came HOME from the NICU
One year ago I finally got to so something so many parents take for granted… Take my baby HOME from the NICU. After 33 days in the hospital we were soooooooooooooooo ready to embark on our new adventure as a family
Monkey was not so sure about leaving the safety of NICU at first. (Why is it that babies hate their car seats so much?!?)
But after we told him about all of the wonderful things waiting for him at home, and all of the fun adventures we we go on he seemed happy. Monkey also seemed to like his Daddy’s going home from the hospital blanket that Grandma had given us the day before for good luck – it worked!
And then went HOME for the first time as a family!!!
What an emotional day it was. We didn’t tell many people that we were bringing him home for fear of another set back and disappointment. But Monkey cooperated and on that beautiful August day I finally brought my 1 month old baby home.Once we got him home I made phone calls to family and friends letting them know the great news, and I posted this status on facebook “welcome home Baby, welcome home!!!”

I think you are totally right, it is something that parents take for granted. After spending 25 & 28 days in the NICU with our twins I understand the joy from finally bringing them home!
As someone else said, preemie parents really value things others take for granted, without even realizing it. Great post!
We spent 33 days in the NICU in January and Febuary this year. Totally understand how great it feels to come home – Can't wait to celebrate the anniversary of us coming home, but today We'll celebrat with you!

@LMW – I know! And when we took him home he was 2lbs bigger then when he was born. Hard to remember him being that small now
@Gingermommy – It felt like FOREVER at the time, but we so happy to get home!
Awww such a sweet picture of your little one… I can imagine how happy you were to all go home together. Sweet.
