Smart Loser Week 2 – 500 Calories

Jan 22, 2012 by

Welcome back to week 2 of the Smart Loser – it has been quite a week around Little Miss Kate, but I will tell you a bit about that later.
First lets look at what it will take for me to really become a smart loser. For the average person you need to burn 3,500 calories to lose 1 lbs, or burn an extra 500 calories/day to lose 1 lbs per week.
But what does an extra 500 calories look like?

Hmmmm I find it very easy to EAT an extra 500 calories/day which is what lead to my recent weight gain in the first place.  A muffin here, a hot chocolate there – it all adds up!  What about taking it back off again? Here is what activity you need to do to burn 500 calories:
This is why diet AND exercise are so important – I don’t have an hour a day to spend at the gym, I am lucky to get there twice a week! It can be difficult to lose weight with increasing your exercise alone, you also need to adjust what you are eating and make sure that you are eating a balanced diet and not undoing all your hard work at the gym with a couple of granola bars.
Weekly check in for Smartest Loser challenge: Well this past week was a bit rough – I did cut out some of my “extras” such as my daily hot chocolate and watched my portion sizes. But with the death of my Grandmother came comfort eating and family gatherings with lots of food. So overall my eating was not at its best, to say the least. On the bright side I did get in 2 great cardio workouts, it has been over a month since I was there and I was a little sore afterwards (but it is all for a good cause!).
I am really hoping to make good progress with getting my diet back in order this week by meal planning and limiting sweet treats (chocolate is my weakness). I also want to get to the gym at least twice this week as well.
Here is to a week of smart choices!

  1. Here's to a week of SMART CHOICES! Let's do it together!

Right now, I'm baking some Chick Peas for a healthy snack….I will let you know how they turn out ;)

You can do this! It is totally understandable why you've had a rough week :(

Hoping for this week to be a better one.

    Hugs.

Mmmmm, Cinnabun. The only kid friendly washroom in Union station is (of course) right next to the Cinnabun and it was CALLING me last night… but I resisted.

I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma! Hugs!

To a week of smart choices for us all! :)

  4. Good for you with the exercise, it's the key for sure

  5. Sorry to hear about your grandma. Comfort eating (and stress eating) can really derail a good plan. But here's to the start of a fresh new week for you! Thanks for sharing your journey.

  6. So sorry about your grandmother. It is hard to lose a beloved family member. Here's to a week of smart choices and beautiful memories of a well loved lady I am sure. Hugs Kate.
