“Being Elmo” Movie Screening in Support of #ZacksDreamRoom #Toronto

There are some stories that just reach in and touch your heart – And Zack Hamilton’s story is no exception to that.

Born in 2007 with a genetic disorder and a heart defect Zack spent a good portion of his life in and out of hospital, primarily York Central Hospital in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Through all of his hospitalizations and health challenges Zack’s resilience shined through. The beloved character Elmo quickly became one of Zack’s Best Friends – through thick and thin Elmo was always there to make Zack smile or offer a snuggle. There were many hours spent at home and hospital watching Elmo DVDs when Zack was not feeling well. In March 2010 Zack’s family had to endure something that no one should ever go through, the loss of a child.

In the days after Zack passed away Heather, Zack’s mother, received a call from the nurses at York Central Hospital asking if she would like to sponsor one of the pediatric rooms scheduled to be renovated in Zack’s honor… and the idea of Zack’s Dream Room was born.

As a celebration and Tribute to Zack a special screening of “Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey”will be shown at the Bloor Street Hot Docs Cinema in Toronto on March 18, 2012 in support of Zach’s Dream Room.

Beloved by children of all ages around the world, Elmo is an international icon. Few people know his creator, Kevin Clash, who dreamed of working with his idol, master puppeteer Jim Henson. Displaying his creativity and talent at a young age, Kevin ultimately found a home on Sesame Street. Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, this documentary includes rare archival footage, interviews with Frank Oz, Rosie O’Donnell, Cheryl Henson, Joan Ganz Cooney and others and offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sesame Street and the Jim Henson Workshop. — (C) Official Site

Tickets for is fun filled event are $20 which includes: Entrance to the Screening, small popcorn & Drink, silent Auction, Kids Crafts, Face Painting, Hasbro Sesame Street Play Area, Sponsors Swag Bag (one per family), and more!

What a great cause! I wish I lived in T.O. so we could make it out but I'm sure there are other ways to give. Thank You for the post, it's important that we take part in causes with the influence we can have.
