Tick-tock-tick-tock here comes summer holidays, what are your plans for your kids??? 

An interesting study was released last year, which confirmed my thoughts on summer camp for kids:  Not only is Summer Camp FUN, but it is good for development too!

Research conducted by the University of Waterloo look at the summer camp experience of Canadian children focusing on 5 key areas:

Surveys conducted with camps across Canada showed that campers of all ages showed improvements in all 5 categories.  That is right camp improves attitudes towards physical activity, and why wouldn’t it when you can take part in great hikes, canoeing, horseback riding and swimming! 

The camp environment allows children to try activities that may be outside their comfort zone in a supportive environment allow children to develop more self-confidence.  And the experience gained from interacting with adults and peers in an unfamiliar environment (with no parents!) works well to further build their independence.   The study also found that these positive changes were even further enhanced in returning campers, indicating the benefits of camp go far beyond attending one session.
