Who would you nominate as Mom of the Year? #MOTY
I believe you can never truly appreciate everything your mother has done for you, until you become a mother yourself. Without experiencing the deep unrelenting love a mother has for her child and unwavering commitment moms have to provide for their family you just cannot completely grasp all of the time, effort and sacrifices you mother made for you. Before I became a mother myself I *thought* that since I was past the “mom you don’t know anything” teen years and the “mom you are not so bad, but I still know better than you” early twenties, that I recognized and appreciated my mom for all of the love and unrelenting support she gave me while I was growing up.

| My Mom with A.C. back in August 2010 |
Boy was I wrong, it was not until A.C. came along that I could really see how all the things she had given up for me – not taking vacations to make sure I could go on school trips, making sure that I was always outfitted with new clothes each school year while she would rarely update her work wardrobe, driving me to and from school activites/friends houses/work when I am sure she would have rather been relaxing at home. My mother is a great mom – generous, compassionate, supportive – I have big shoes to fill if I want to be the kind of mother to A.C that she was to me.
One of the most amazing transformations I have seen as an adult is watching my friends turn into mothers as well. Those same qualities that I admire so much in my own mom I see blossoming in them. Friends who have put careers on hold as they focus on raising their small children
Friends whose strength, courage, and selflessness have lifted themselves and others up during difficult times Friends who take on the responsibility and “labour of love” of being a parent with such grace, energy and enthusiasm that at times it leaves me in awe of their to manage it all.
Walmart Canada also recognizes the amazing feats that moms tackle everyday and have created the Mom of the Year Award. Mom of the Year is all about recognizing the contributions moms make on a daily basis to their family and community. The Mom of the Year will receive a $10,000 prize along with $100,000 donated to a charity of their choice! Just imagine the difference you can make with a donation like that. Children, family members, friends, colleagues and community members are all able to submit nominations. Nominations close on July 8, 2012 so head on over to the Mom of the Year website to submit your nomination today.

I would nominate my mom
Holy cow Kate: your mom looks young and sweet. What a gorgeous picture and a nice tribute to her.
Would totally nominate my mother, for every year, lol. She has sacrificed so much for her three children.
What a touching post! You're right. It wasn't until I had my own child that I grew to understand my Mom more. She sacrificed a lot for her 3 kids.
Wow! Your Mom looks so young!!! xo
Your Mother is so fortunate to have you, a daughter that appreciates all that she does. I'm sure she's so proud.
I should tell my Mother more how much I appreciate her. Off to make a phone call.

I love my kids with all of my heart.
