School Memories – First Day of School Outfits! #OKSchoolMem
As part of the Private School Expo Blog Hop, I have been asked to share some School Memories with you. Since A.C. has not started school yet we will have to go waaaaaay back to my school memories. My educational journey has been a longer then average (but don’t you dare call me a professional student like hubby does, I love learning and taking on new challenges not avoiding the realities of the working world). Of course I completed elementary, middle and high school. But then I went on to an undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph, a Masters degree from the University of Toronto and finally a post graduate diploma from Humber College which lead me to a career in healthcare that I love.
From grade 1 all the way up to my post-grad diploma I remember one of the biggest decisions that had to be made every year… The First Day of School Outfit!

Back to school shopping included not only picking up the “essentials” for school supplies, but also new clothes and shoes for the upcoming year. Once home the task became sorting out which new outfit would get the coveted First Day of School slot. I never cared too much about what I wore or keeping up with fashion trends, but somehow making sure you wore just the right thing on day 1 of the school year seemed so important. Once I was old enough to pick my own clothes my first day of school outfits were normally made up of jeans and my favorite top at the time. But as you can see from the picture above, my mom went all out on my first day of Grade 1. I think (hope) this is the only picture of me in a sweater vest floating around!
Did you have any traditions when it came to the First Day of School Outfits? What do your kids wear on the first day?

LOL that's an awesome outfit
Oh my gosh, that is TOO cute!
That is such a cute picture! I wouldn't say that we have any back to school traditions when it comes to clothing. As long as the kids are comfortable and happy with what they are wearing, we're good.
You look too cute, lol… love the back to school outfit. My oldest is in 2nd grade and we usually do a nice skirt with leggings and a cute top for the first day. I generally let my daughter pick what she wants to wear but make changes if necessary.
Awww! Adorable! When we were kids, we used to go shopping a few weekends before school started. We got to pick 2 or 3 new outfits for school. It was always the highlight of my summer/fall! LOL! LOVE back to school shopping!
So cute. I love getting the kids photo with all their new duds on. I should dig out some of my first day pics and share them with the kids.
Ooooh such a cute photo! I remember how much I worried about my first outfit because it had to be the nicest one I owned!

Haha, that little getup is adorable! Admittedly when I first glanced at it I assumed it was some sort of uniform though, hehe. Ahhh sweater vests.
Yeah I was the same way as you – put a lot of emphasis on the first day outfit but otherwise was pretty casual.
I certainly recall shopping for back to school clothes and the older I got the more important that became.
Awhhh…you look totally adorable and I'm pretty sure my daughter had a very similar skirt. lol
