Brrrrrrr we have had some very COLD weather this winter – trying to get us into a Winter Olympic mood maybe? With the -40oC wind chill it has been too cold to really play outside so we brought some of the Olympic fun indoors. Monkey might not be ready to compete at the Olympic level in speed skating or ski jump, but he has been trying out his skills at Olympic Ring Toss! Monkey enjoyed practicing his toss, while Little Bear was an expert of taking them back off the post.
Olympic Ring Toss is easy to make, and you probably have most of the supplies in your house already. The kids will have fun painting the plates and tubes to make the game. Here is what you will need:
6 Paper Plates
Paint – Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Black
Cardboard tube – from paper towels etc
1 – Paint the rims of 5 paper plates in the Olympic colours. Decorate 1 plate to become the base of the of the post, we incorporated all of the Olympic colours on the base plate.. Paint the cardboard tube, we choose red for ours. Allow to dry.
2 – Cut out the centers of the 5 plates to create 5 coloured rings
3 – Cut out a circle from the base plate approximately the diameter of the cardboard tube. Insert the tube through the hole while the plate is laying flat on the table and secure with tape to create the base.
Create this easy “Olympic Game” at home and have some fun with the kids. It is a great opportunity to talk to your kids about the upcoming games, and get into the Olympic Spirit. We can’t wait for the Olympics to start, but while we are waiting we will be awarding our own medals for Olympic Ring Toss!
