10 volunteers from Peekaboo Child Care centres are embarking on a trip of a lifetime this month. They will be traveling to Tanzania to lend their talents and expertise to 2 great organizations. Helping out with building projects, early childhood education strategies, and providing love and much needed assistance to the children and staff at these centres.
Faraja Young Women Development Unit is a school and boarding facility dedicated to education, life skill coaching and building the self esteem of young mothers in Tanzania. The facility has an onsite daycare to that mothers can attend classes knowing that their children are well cared for.
Nkoaranga Ophanage Centre is an orphanage that houses 30 children, some right from birth. The centre strives to provide a loving and stable environment for the children on VERY limited resources. At age 4 the children start attending the local school. You can read about the children and ongoing projects all on their excellent blog
When I found out about this trip I immediately knew I wanted to help Peekaboo gather items on their “Wish List” to donate to those who need it most. I have always wanted to do a trip like this but never had the opportunity. Reading the stories of the children and the dedicated unresourced and underpaid staffmade me want to help even more. I reached out to several Greater Toronto Area Organizations to see if they would like to help out and they were more generous then I could have ever imagined!!!
I can never thank them enough for their generosity and support in helping to provide the basic necessities to children who need it most. A HUGE thank you to:
