It takes a village to raise a child
This is not only one of my favourite quotes, but also a way of life in my family. Growing up my “village” consisted not only of my Mom & Dad, Grandma’s & Grandpa’s but also Aunts, Uncles, Step-family, neighbours, and many of my mothers friends who were just as close to me as any blood relative. Through all of their actions of love, friendship and compassion I have wonderful childhood memories of grand adventures and simple backyard play dates. Because of their support of both my mother and I there was nothing I felt I could not achieve. Together this village shaped me into the woman I have become.
I knew that I wanted my children to have a strong support system around them growing up. To feel the love that can come from others far outside the traditional definitions of “family” and build a village to help and support our family as the kids grow. This was never more evident to me when I picked up the mail last week and inside there was a beautiful envelope address to me. Not recognizing the company it was from I was amazed when I opened it and saw it was a gift of home cooked frozen meals to be delivered right to my door. What gift could be more perfect for a mom with a newborn at home?!? And who was this generous gift from… My Bloggy Girlfriends! I was so touched by these wonderful ladies who I have only met “in real life” a couple of times (if that), and have never met Hubs, Monkey or Little Bear. Yet they went out of their way to give my family a thoughtful and much appreciated gift to help celebrate the birth of Little Bear. I am so blessed to be able to call these caring and thoughtful women friends and have them as part of our family village.
It takes a village to raise a child – thank you so much for being a part of our village, it means the world to me!
