I can vaguely remember a time when going out shopping was a leisurely activity. “Let’s go to the mall” meant a relaxing stroll through stores with a stop for tea at the end. Flash forward 10 years and going to the mall or the grocery store has a very different feel. With 3 kids there is little room for strolling, more like chasing after, and things need to get done fast because someone will need a nap/bathroom break/snack or some other request any minute. That is why I love using Interac Flash when it comes time to check out. It is a safe, secure and quick way for me to pay for my purchases and get with whatever adventure the kids have planned for me next.
This is what it looks like when I go grocery shopping with the kids. So picture me at the grocery store check out trying to bag groceries as Monkey tries to push the cart away with Baby Roo riding in it. And all the while Little Bear is running circles and trying to get into the cashier area. Giving you nightmares yet? Using my debit card with Interac Flash allows me to pay for my purchase without having to stop, focus and think of what my PIN number is between saying things like “Please don’t push that” “Please stop running” “No don’t touch that”…
With the built in security features, I Iove that Interac Flash technology makes my life easier and I will take that whenever I can get it! Interac chip debit cards enabled with Interac Flash will have the wave symbol on the front of the card and terminals where you pay that accept Interac Flash will have the wave symbol with a hand. You just hold your card over the terminal and you are on your way.
I have mentioned that I felt secure in using this tap-and-go form of payment with Interac Flash and here is why:
- Individual Transaction Limit – a single Interac Flash transaction cannot exceed $100
- Period Pin Verification – you will be prompted at the terminal to insert your chip card and enter your PIN once you reach the safety limit of up to $200 for multiple Interac Flash purchases. This is in place to ensure you are the rightful cardholder and means you can’t spend more than $200 in multiple purchases without entering your PIN.
- Zero Customer Liability – as an Interac cardholder you be reimbursed for unauthorized transactions resulting from circumstances beyond your control
- Protection From Fraud Tactics – technology has come a long way help prevent fraud tactics such as skimming, duplicating and electronic pick-pocketing. The data that is transferred is payment transaction codes not account-related details, which means no information can be captured by criminals to conduct fraudulent transactions or identity theft.
Interac debit card fraud losses as a result of skimming are at an all-time low, and have dropped 88% since 2009. To learn more about Interac security, visit interac.ca/security. I love using my Interac Flash so much now that I get annoyed when I am at a terminal that doesn’t have the technology to accept it yet.
