A little rain could not stop us from having a wonderful time at the Day out with Thomas™: Thrill of the Ride Tour 2014. This past weekend I had the opportunity to take the boys on a one of a kind adventure with Little Bear favorite toy – Thomas The Tank Engine. I was very impressed with the selection of activities for the kids, both indoors and out, as well as the excellent organization and helpful staff.
Outdoor activities included an Island of Sodor Hay Maze (perfectly sized for kids), bubble fun area, and ride on toys. And we can’t forget the glitter tattoos, even Grandma got in on the fun. While I wish the weather was nicer to be outside, almost all of the outdoor activities were under covered tents to help you stay out of the rain, or offer some shade if it was a hot summer day.
The “Imagination Station” offered a huge variety of activities for kids all inside an arena away from the elements. You could spend as much or as little time as you wanted creating door hangers, colouring a variety of colouring sheets, creating a custom railway track picture using rubber stamps or playing at the PlayDoh Table. All of the tables were well stocked, and even though it was rainy out the indoor activities were not overly crowded.
There were also model railways set up for viewing and several play tables with different train sets and MEGA BLOKS. The boys spent a lot of time having fun playing with the train sets. Of course the highlight of the day was seeing Thomas The Tank Engine himself and going for a ride. Little Bear was fascinated with the train, and had fun watching it coming and going even when it was not our turn for a ride. Once we actually boarded the train both boys were in their element waving to all the people and cars we passed, and loving when Thomas tooted his horn.
Overall I was very impressed with the organization and range of activities at the Day Out With Thomas™: Thrill of the Ride Tour. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and I appreciated that there was no add on costs, all activities were included in the price of admission. There were food concession stands that were located in one site and easy to avoid if you were not interested in buying food. Also, the gift shop offered a great array of Thomas The Tank Engine products and we did do a little shopping, and like the concession area it was nicely situated at one end of the arena with curtains around it perfect for avoiding meltdowns if you were not doing any shopping.
