As a mom, when I talk about energy it is usually the “I am exhausted” kind of energy I am referring to. Running after 2 boys, with 1 on the way, does use a LOT of energy. However energy also plays a much larger role in our lives, and without it I would be even more tired (if that is possible). The energy we use in our day to day living is so much more than heating, cooling, driving, or having the lights on at home. It helps us stay connected with friends and family via telephones, cell phones, and computers. Just one example of this is being able to use Skype to connect with my Hubs and boys when I have traveled to Prague and New York City. Being able to see their faces and talk to them made being away just that much easier.
It is energy that will allow my mom to chat with and see my sister via webcam while she is away attending university. And one of my favourite “digitally connected” moments I have had was in 2012 when we had our 3D ultrasound with Little Bear and my mother-in-law was able to log in and watch it live with all of us, as if she was in the same room, not 2,000km away.
Canada is a country rich in many resources, and energy is no exception to that. And as such we have the opportunity and the challenge to develop these resources in a sustainable way that supports the needs of our growing world. It is amazing to think that Shell Canada produces enough energy every day to meet the world’s oil demand for 4 minutes – everyday for almost 7 billion people. Shell Canada knows that the feature is not just about producing more energy, but also improving efficiency of our energy use for both business and personal use.
That is why Shell Canada has launched the Energy 4 Seven Billion Contest and is challenging Canadians to come up with a dream experience, initiative or project and to explore the ways in which energy would be used to help make it a reality. Now it is time to get your thinking caps on, with a Grand prize of $25,000 this is a contest worth entering!
To enter you need to describe your dream energy experience and how energy would play a role in making it happen. Submissions will be accepted until September 30, 2014, the top 10 most “liked” ideas will become finalists that will be judged by energy experts to determine the grand prize winner. My dream experience would be to drive across Canada – we live in such a beautiful and diverse country I would love to be able to explore more of it with my family.
So what your dream experience be? Taking a road trip across Canada or maybe a cruise vacation for the whole family???
