Last week Monkey, Baby Roo and I headed out on an adventure to Toronto for the day. I was not 100% sure where our adventure would take us, but knew a stop at the YouAreWelcome Food Truck was a must. The YouAreWelcome Food Truck is visiting Toronto during the Pan Am games and serving up some delicious samples of authentic Ojibway cuisine. The Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation (MNCFN), the Official Host First Nation for the Pan Am Game, teamed up with Chef David Wolfman, an internationally recognized expert in wild game and traditional Aboriginal cuisine to create a mouth watering menu of foods that you can try.
Keep your eye peeled as you are walking around Toronto this week to spot the YouAreWelcome Food Truck and have a chance to try the food out yourself. The YouAreWelcome Food Truck team will be handing out $5 gift cards that can be traded in at the truck in exchange for some culinary delights making it FREE for you to try!!! So what is on the menu?
There are 4 delicious options available at the truck my personal favourite was the Curried Elk and Sweet Potato in Pastry – the curry gave the perfect amount of flavour without being too strong while the sweet potato and pastry added a hint of sweetness to the dish.
Monkey’s faourite by far was the Nish Kabobs. In his words “I don’t know why anyone would ever stop eating these Nish Kabobs they are so good.” He was not lying, they were very tasty, even Baby Roo enjoyed them! They were so good, that I am thinking I will give the recipe a try at home.
If you like a little bit of spice the the Smoked Turkey Chili is for you. And to finish things off the Wild Blueberry Bannock was a hit all around. No matter which one you pick you really can’t loose as they are all so good.
Not able to make it to Toronto to try them in person? Or loved the food so much you want more? Then check out the First Nations inspired recipes on the YouAreWelcome website to create your own delicous meals at home. Not only do they have the 4 recipes that are showcased on the YouAreWelcome Food Truck, they also include others suck as Orange Laced Duck Breast with Corn Relish and Rhubarb & Apple Crumble.
