If you were to ask any Canadian woman to name a toy she played with as a child, I’m sure Barbie would make her top five. Every little girl has a Barbie story from when they were young. Whether it was to keep you entertained as a only child, as a way to explore what you wanted to be when you grew up or to allow your imagination to take you on journeys you never thought possible, Barbie was always the girl you turned to.
Growing up, I had a sister who was 14 months younger then me, essentially a built in playmate. I can remember spending hours with her creating new adventures for Barbie to go on. We even had my Mom’s first Barbie, who face was a little green by the time we got her, and clothing that her Nanny had made for her, to play with. Whether it Barbie’s latest Convertible and stylish clothes or a shoe box that we had turned into Barbie’s private get away, Barbie allowed us to express our personalities, spark creativity and embrace our femininity.
This summer, Barbie is celebrating Canada’s women entrepreneurs with the launch of the Entrepreneur Barbie. Being an Entrepreneur is the 150th career on Barbie’s resume and it was inspired as a tribute to Barbie’s creator and entrepreneur, Ruth Handler. Her mission was to inspire the imagination of girls everyone and teach them to follow their dreams. Decked out with smartphone, tablet and chic fashion, Entrepreneur Barbie shows us that ‘Anything is possible!’
To launch her newest Career, Barbie searched for the perfect Canadian Entrepreneur to help inspire budding entrepreneurs. After an extensive search, Montreal’s Erica Diamond was chosen to be Barbie’s Chief Inspirational Officer. Erica is an acclaimed parenting columnist, entrepreneur, founder and editor-in-chief of womenonthefence.com. Erica says that Barbie inspired her to dream big and be fearless, and today, she is living out those dreams. Erica will lead the jury panel in the selection of Barbie Business Bursary winner.
The Barbie Business Bursary
Along side the launch of Entrepreneur Barbie, the first-ever Barbie Business Bursary Program has been launched.
