This September marks big time for us, not only should Baby #3 be arriving but Monkey will also be starting Kindergarten! He is super excited to be starting in his “new school” and is already asking when he can go. I am excited not only for him, but also because I get to do some back to school shopping this year! As a seasoned student (23 years of school in total, not that anyone is counting) I have enjoyed my share of back to school shopping, and was looking forward to doing some shopping for someone other then myself! Monkey and I headed to Walmart to pick up some of the basics for him as well as some extras to donate to a local community group.
Now even though Monkey already has a backpack which we have used for the last 3 years at daycare, I decided that he could get a new one to mark the start of school. And at $10 how could I say no to this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Backpack! Walmart had a great selection of backpacks that ranged in price from $5 and up. There were also cute sets of backpacks and lunch boxes available for $14! We picked up the TMNT backpack for Monkey, and selected bag to donate as well. Tip: If you can’t find the backpack you are looking for in the Back To School Section ask if they have a display elsewhere in the store. I found a tonne more over by shoes/kids clothing.
Walmart has some amazing deals on right now including:
- Crayola Crayons (24 ct) – $0.25
- Hilroy Paper () – $0.10
- Bic Ball Point Pens (10 ct) – $1.00
- Crayola Coloured Pencils (24 ct) – $0.94
- Elmers Glue Sticks (8 ct) – $3.00
- Sharpie (2ct) – $2.00
- Bic Highlighters (6 ct) – $3.00
Plus they have binders starting at $1.00 and notebooks & report covers starting at $0.05! With deals like these you can afford to pick up a few extra things to donate to families who may not be able to afford back to school shopping this year. And don’t forget to label all the things you send to school so that they make it back home again! Walmart also sells Mabel’s Labels, my favourite labels that we use on everything from water bottles to clothes with the boys.
Here is what we came home with from our shopping trip: 2 backpacks, 2 packs of crayons, 5 packs of coloured pencils, glue sticks, highlighters, thick and thin sharpies, 4 packs of pens, 5 report covers and 10 packs of paper all for $42.84 including taxes. I will be able to buy a lunch box for Monkey and not even break $50 in total!
As Monkey is only in kindergarten we will be donating the majority of this to a local community group. Hopefully a new pack of pencil crayons can help make a child smile just like I did when I was a kid. Now don’t wait too long to start your back to school shopping these deals will only be around at Walmart until August 18! Don’t want to head into the Walmart store? Shop online at Walmart.ca and have everything shipped to you for free!
Have you started back to school shopping yet? What is on your list?
