Along with the warm weather has come something a little unexpected – a barrage of bumps, bruises and scrapes on Monkey and Little Bear. Now it is not like they have never had a “boo boo” before, but it seems this year the rate at which they are happening has increased exponentially. I guess I should not be surprised, these boys are always on the move running everywhere, and we have been spending a lot of time outside. Bumps, bruises and scrapes are bound to happen. However that also means that it is time for me to restock my first aid kit! No way this mama wants to be stuck without any bandages or polysporin the next time the boys have a boo boo. So far this year we have dealt with splinters, scrapes, bruises, and a pretty awesome header into the turf grass at daycare and it is not even July!
With a long summer ahead of us, I knew it was time to stock up on some of the “first aid kit “essentials” as well as a few other summer necessities. I stopped in to Target Canada and found everything I needed in the Pharmacy and seasonal sections. Bandages of all shapes and sizes are a must have in our house, not only for the boys but also for Hubs who is a carpenter and is always coming home with wounds of his own. Monkey immediately spotted the wide selection of children’s bandages. The hardest part was deciding which ones would come home with us.
Polysporin goes hand in hand with bandages. We always have a couple of tubes on the go between home and Hubs work; to help keep infections at bay and speed up the healing process. I also stocked up on pain relievers as we have been going through them a lot faster than normal. Hubs hurt his back a couple of weeks ago and is only now starting to get back to normal.
Kids won’t complain about having a cold pack to help with pain and swelling if you have some of these reusable ice packs. Really what little boy won’t feel better with Spider-man coming to the rescue!
The pre-made first aid kits are perfect to pick up to have in your car or to take up to the cottage. Everything you need all in a handy carrying case. And of course I could not forget the bug spray and sun protection as we will be spending lots of time by the water this year. And being a red head, even with all the sun protection and shade I still pick up some Aloe Vera cream (and I see I am not the only one in need!).
Take a few minutes this week to have a look at your medicine cabinet and first aid kit to give it a little “Spring clean”. Dispose of any expired medicine (like the Benedryl that expired in 2011 that I found!) and stop by your local Target Store to restock anything your are missing from your first aid kit. Psst, don’t forget to use your Red Card and save 5% off your purchase too. What you do need in your first aid kit to be prepared this summer?
