This time of year can be so busy! Just when we are supposed to be focusing on giving back to others, and spending time with our loved ones. Between work, Christmas concerts and shopping it can feel like there is not a free moment to spare. That is when it when it is time to work smarter not harder. Don’t worry Little Miss Kate is here to help you out with some holiday hacks to save you time this holiday season while you are entertaining!
Cut down on time in the kitchen -Keep some desserts and appetizers that are super quick on hand for last minute party invites or a quick dish for unexpected guests. I do a family baking day in mid December and store all the goodies in air tight containers in the fridge so that I always have some treats to take to a dinner party. Pick up a cheese tray that is ready to serve so you don’t need to spend time slaving in the kitchen when you could be visiting.
Make a list and check it twice – Whether it is shopping for presents, party dishes, or meals for your own family, make a list, and check it to make sure you have everything you need on it. Also remember to bring it with you, so you don’t forget something while you are at the store! We have all done that, haven’t we? And if you do happen to leave it at home (ahem like Hubs did last week) see if you can get someone at home to text you a picture of it so you still have a list to work off of.
Lots of healthy quick to prepare meals – Christmas time is busy, but that doesn’t mean you need to run to the drive-thru to feed your family. You can still enjoy nutritious and tasty meals that don’t take long to prepare. Look ahead at your week, and see how many “quick” dinners you will need. Longo’s has a huge selection of prepared or easy to prepare meals including pastas that you can just heat and serve, stir fry, quiche, and many different salads from the salad bar. The key is grab and go! Whip it together in a few short minutes, sit, eat as a family and the you are off and running again!
Shop efficiently – Use your list, and the layout of your store to map out what aisles you need to hit, and ones you can skip. When hitting the checkout, organize things on the conveyor belt by where they will go once you get home. E.g. All fridge things together.
Get it all in one place – Grocery stores now have items that make great presents, as well as all the food items you will need. You are able to find everything on your list at one store, which means you are not running around having to make multiple stops. Plus one reason I like shopping at Longo’s is they carry grocery items that are sometimes hard to find like ground pork (to make tourtiere of course), it makes it the smart choice as your first stop as shopping there will likely eliminate other stops for you. Looking for gift ideas? Pick up some nice cookies and tea for a teacher gift, or grab one of the pre-made and wrapped baskets. Another idea is to pick up a cheese board and a selection of cheeses, but them together with a bottle of wine and you will have a tasty gift that anyone would be lucky to receive.
Get it delivered to you – Better yet! Instead of running out to the store, when you have a few minutes, hit Grocery Gateway by Longos and order everything you would’ve grabbed in the store. Check out, schedule your delivery when it best fits your schedule, and then just wait for it all to come to you! Seriously without online shopping this holiday season I would have nothing done.
This is of year is busy, but save some time and stress with these holiday hacks! With 30 Longo’s locations in the Greater Toronto Area there is one near you to help you get your Christmas shopping done. And if you haven’t heard Longo’s just opened a NEW Brampton location at Sandalwood Parkway and Mississauga Road. Pop in to this beautiful new store to cross grocery and gift shopping off your list.
Don’t forget to stop, take a deep breath, and enjoy the season!
