One of the biggest purchases parents make when it comes to their infant is their car seat. With so many choices out there it can be overwhelming to try and sort through them all. With three kids all still in car seats, and two vehicles I have done my fair share of car seat shopping over the last five years. One of the first car seats we bought for Monkey was a Diono Car Seat. After seeing them in person at a baby show I liked the style, construction, and size of their convertible+booster car seats. When I was asked to test out the Diono Rainer car seat with Baby Roo, I knew it would be a great fit.
Here are some of the features I love about the Diono Rainer Car Seat:
- 3-in-1 Car seat and booster – This one car seat offers rear-facing starting as low as 5 lbs, then forward-facing and converts to a booster for older children, too. It really can take you from birth all the way through until your child is big enough for the adult seat belt to fit properly.
- Extended rear-facing – It can be used rear-facing for children 5–50lbs. It has been shown that rear-facing is the safest position for children while in a vehicle. And for someone like me whose babies grow big fast, having a high weight limit for rear-facing is important. At nine months Baby Roo was in the 90th percentile for height and weight, and it is great to know that this seat will help keep her secure and rear-facing in our van for a long time to come
- Narrow space-saving design – The base is wide enough to be comfortable for your child to sit in, but not bulky, so it does not block the seat next to it, and you can comfortably fit an adult in the middle between 2 installed car seats. In some cars, the Rainier will fit 3 across – always be sure to measure before you buy to make sure it fits.
- SuperLATCH – If you have ever installed car seat you know how difficult it can be to clip and unclip the latch hooks. The Diono Rainier has the unique SuperLATCH system which makes installation quick and easy. Trust me, by the time you are moving the third car seat over to Grandma’s car, you’ll be very thankful for this system
The Diono Rainier has a full steel frame and aluminum reinforced sides. While this is not the lightest car seat on the market, it does fold flat for travel and is FAA certified. I also love that this car seat has the harness adjuster strap at the front of the seat to allow for easy tightening once your child is fastened in. And the Diono Rainier has a 12-year product life, so you won’t have to worry about your car seat expiring for over a decade. I like the nice deep side walls and the head protection, too. And it may seem like a small thing, but I love that the pads on the harness velcro on and off. That way if they get dirty with spit up or food you don’t need to unthread the whole seat to get them off and wash them. It’s details like these that make my life so much easier.
