I remember the excitement of getting accepted to the University of my choice and the nerves that followed while preparing to move out of my parents house for the first time. This past month it was my “baby” sisters turn to leave the nest and head out on her own. Again getting prepared for school away from home was both exciting and intimidating, but as a family we have been getting some of the things she would need for school ready. Christmas presents of a new laptop and laptop bag, heading out shopping to buy sheets and towels. About 2 weeks before my sister was to move out it looked like they had everything all set. That is until I asked “You have a printer right?’….. and silence. Oops, I guess there was one thing they forgot to pick up! Having a printer at hand to print out assignments, scan class notes to send to friends, or to print out pictures to decorate your dorm room is a must. Luckily I was able to send my sister off to University with the Epson Expression Premium XP-610 Small-in-One® Printer.
Don’t let the name fool you for this Epson printer, there is nothing small about the features or quality that this printer offers. Space is always at a premium in dorm rooms and the compact Epson Expression Premium XP-610 Small-in-One® Printer offers all the features you need in one small unit including:
- Wireless Printing and Scanning – no need to hook up your laptop directly to the printer, using a wifi connection you can print directly from laptop, tablet, cell phone and more
- Two-sided printing – save on paper and space in your binders by printing out documents double-sided
- Scanner – quickly scan lecture notes that you can email directly to yourself or to to a friend that missed class
- Photo printing – it is easy to quickly print out colour photos from your Epson printer to decorate your dorm room, and help make it feel like home.
Setup of Epson printer was quick and easy. I like that the printer cartridges are all separate, so you can replace each one individually when needed. Regular paper and photo paper are held in different trays, so you don’t need to worry about switching them back and forth when printing – just hit print and away you go. The printer also has slots for SD and MS cards as well as a USB port for easy connectivity to a number of cameras and devices. Tip when loading paper, especially the photo paper, close the outer “door” on the paper trays and push on that door to close the trays, that way you won’t push the photo paper tray past its “stop point”. My only other comment on this is that I do wish the paper tray was a little larger, I would like to be able to put in 100-200 sheets at a time whereas the tray only holds 50 or so sheets.
Overall the Epson Expression Premium XP-610 Small-in-One® Printer has all the features a university student needs and more. While this won’t get my sister good grades in university, she will have to work at that herself, it is one less thing to worry about when it comes to studying, completing assignments and writing papers.
