One yer ago I sat wondering where my tiny little baby went. That little preemie who had stormed into the world and stole my heart. Now I was sending that “baby” off to JK for the first time and I was just a *bit* of a mess. (I blame the tears on being pregnant with Baby Roo at the time) JK had its ups and down for Monkey. He was so excited to go to school, and loved showing everyone affection. We had to have a few talks about keeping our hands and hugs to ourselves. Then there was circle time where Monkey learned that if acted silly he could get the whole class laughing.
Fast forward a year and I could not be more proud of my little boy heading off to SK. He is ready to take on the world, ask questions about everything he sees, and lend a helping hand to the younger kids in his class. Watching just how much he has grown up in the last year amazes me everyday. While I am impressed with how well Monkey is learning his letters, shapes and numbers, it is his curiosity that I love even more. We have conversations daily about how the world works around us. “How does my brain work mom?” “How do you build a car?” “What tool are they using at that construction site?” “How is bread made?” and the list goes on. Sometimes I know the answers, and can break it down to his level. Other times Mommy needs a little help and we usually end up in our computer chair doing research together and learning together. Luckily our Staples Office Chair is the perfect size so that everyone can get in on the learning.
Monkey’s thirst for knowledge and learning, is rarely quenched. When one is answered, it leads to another and another. I hope that he never loses that spark for asking why and taking on the unknown. Then there are times where Monkey takes over the computer to have a little Minecraft time. The concepts he understands, and complexes he builds just blows me away.
I often wonder what sort of adventures we are in for with Monkey over the next 15 years. What interests will stick around over the long run? Will he still love learning new things with me? How many more years will we be able to sit together in our computer chair before we don’t fit anymore?
Share with me – A lot can happen in a child’s chair in one year: an inspiring idea, an A+ paper, even a fridge-worthy masterpiece. So, our question is: What Will Happen in Your Chair this year?
