In some ways being a mom of 2 has been easier than I expected. Monkey has welcomed Little Bear with open arms and embraced the roll of big brother. Our new family just seemed to “click”, and we quickly fell into a new routine. However being a mom of 2 is not without new challenges – it is not 2 against 1 anymore, it is 1 on 1 all the time. You don’t get the same down time that you could when you just have 1 child that you can pass off to the other parent for an hour or two. And it gets even more tricky when you are trying to juggle both kids alone. Both have their own demands – I need a snack, I need to use the potty, Mommy come play with me, time for a nap, need to feed the baby, diaper change time, and on and on… There are days when I am sure I am going to lose my mind. But thanks to some of my Fisher-Price favorites they help me save a little bit of my sanity on a daily basis.
When Monkey was little one of my girlfriends loaned her Ocean Wonders Aquarium which we used until he was over a year, and then we returned it to her when she was expecting her second child. I didn’t really give it a second thought, that is until Little Bear was about 6 weeks old. It was the first time I was flying solo with both kids for the whole day. What was I going to do to keep Little Bear happy while I was getting Monkey down for a nap? Bringing him into Monkeys room did not work, every sound Little Bear made would get Monkey going again, making getting him to sleep impossible. Leaving Little Bear in the play pen was no good as he would just fuss, and then we could hear him anyways. That is when I remembered the Ocean Wonders Aquarium and how it had entranced Monkey as a baby. I was excited to still had it in stores, and that it even had some new features – including a remote to turn it on/off from afar. The Ocean Wonders Aquarium did just the trick, the soothing music and gentle movement of the fish and bubbles keeps Little Bear happy and occupied so I can tend to Monkey needs. It truly is one of my Fisher-Price favorites for helping this mommy of 2 stay sane.
Another Fisher-Price favorite around our house is the Laugh & Learn Click’n Lean Remote. Little Bear got one for Christmas, but BOTH kids love playing with it. Monkey makes sure that they are sharing and taking turns with “Little Bear’s remote”. It keeps them entertained long enough without any fighting I can even enjoy a cup of tea… bliss.
