As a child there are some Christmas traditions that you look forward to all year long. Maybe it is baking with Grandma, or the daily excitement of discovering what is inside your advent calendar. One of my favorite traditions was picking out the outfit I would wear on Christmas… The Christmas Dress. While I am sure that my Mom had some influence on my choices I remember the run of going out shopping to find the special outfit that would be the one I would wear on our travels on Christmas day.
As a mom of 2 boys, I kept up the tradition of buying a special Christmas outfit for Monkey and Little Bear. But I must say the nice Christmas sweater selection for boys gets pretty limited as they grow. And I am not ashamed to say that I was excited about the prospect of shopping for a Christmas Dress once Baby Roo came along.
Christmas dress shopping for Baby Roo was a family affair as I think Grandma was even more excited then I was about shopping for dresses. After searching at several stores and coming up empty we were not sure that we would find just the right dress for Baby Roo’s 1st Christmas. But then a friend tweeted out a picture of a dress that was exactly what I was looking for – The Christmas Dress!

Turns out that Target Canada had exactly what I was looking for and I bought the dress, sweater and leggings that night. Not to be left out, I also found some great sweaters for the boys. Target had an extensive selection of holiday wear for both girls and boys. Or if your family is into buying new Christmas PJ’s they have those too.
Yes it may seem silly to go through the trouble of buying an outfit that will only be worn on a couple of occasions. However, the tradition of The Christmas Dress is one that I am happy to keep alive now that I have a little girl to go shopping for. And when it ends up being this cute, how could I not???
Does your family have a Christmas tradition of new outfits or PJs?
