How was your weekend? We had a fun filled weekend as we celebrated Hubs birthday on Friday and had the chance to participate in the 8th annual TELUS Day Of Giving on Saturday. I jumped at the chance to join the friendly TELUS team at the Toronto Zoo to do some volunteer work and learn more about how TELUS employees “Give Where We Live”. All packed and ready to go for a family adventure of a day at the Toronto Zoo with the Kids, we headed out to meet the team.
And what a team it was! Over 13,000 TELUS team members, retirees, friends and family joined in activities all across Canada to help support and give back to their local community. Activities including sorting food bank donations, helping out at children’s hospitals, and making outdoor paces green again. At the Toronto Zoo we were divided into groups for different tasks which included making fire hose hammocks for the gorillas or creating grapevine balls which the animals use to play with. Our groups task for the day: Help stop birds from flying into the Red Panda enclosure. As parts of this enclosure are surrounded by trees the birds can’t see the glass or the small decals there to help warn them, so we helped make all of the glass “frosted” so it is easily visible to the birds.Hubs was fantastic and jumped right in to get the job done. It also helped that he was one of the tallest people there and was able to reach some of the higher sessions easily. We had great team and working together we were able to get the entire enclosure done!
Our smallest helpers collected pine cones which are given to the animals at the Zoo. We all had a great day and helped make a difference to the animals at the Toronto Zoo! Personally I love taking part in activities like this as I think it is so important to teach your children to give back starting from a young age.
TELUS is extending its “Give Where We Live” philosophy beyond its own employees and business partners, they want to know how YOU Give Where YOU Live. From now until June 15, 2013 share your photos of how you “Give Where We Live” for your chance to be one of 10 Canadians who will receive a $10,000 donation to their charity of choice. You can find all of the contest details at GiveWhereWeLive.ca. So get tweeting or Instagraming your photos using the hashtag #givewherewelive and let TELUS know “What would you do within your community to help make a difference?”
So make sure you enter the TELUS contest, but also let me know… How do you Give Where We Live?
