I took the plunge at the end of last month and went on my first real road trip with both kids. Monkey and I have been on a few trips before including a trip to Halifax, and we have done overnight trips with both kids to Grandma’s house. But this was my first BIG road trip… with 2 kids… and I survived! I was attending the Social Capital Conference in Ottawa, and decided to make it into a fun family trip. I had never been to Ottawa before and thought it would be a fun adventure, and a good test run for a larger family vacation we are planning to take this summer. So I packed up the kids, 2 Grandmas (my mom and her BFF who was known as Grandma P on the trip) and left Hubs at home to work and enjoy a quiet weekend at home as a belated birthday present.
We spent 4 days exploring Ottawa and enjoying all the city had to offer. I have to say with being so close to Toronto, Ottawa definitely offers a more of a calm “small town” feel. They city was very clean, people were polite, and Ottawa was easy to navigate. The traffic in Ottawa was nothing compared to the Toronto rush hour that seems to last all day now.
Before heading out on our epic adventure I checked out Ottawa Tourism to find out about the local attractions and events that would be happening while we were visiting. I wanted to find activities that the Grandmas would enjoy, but also keep Monkey entertained as well. And Ottawa delivered! From the Parliament Buildings and the many museums to shopping the ByWard Market we had an amazing time. The city really does offer something for everyone no matter what your age or your budget. I will be sharing some of our adventures in separate posts as we had a blast exploring the city and taking in many of the attractions. I just wished we had more time there as there were so many fun things to do. Ottawa will definitely be on my list of places to visit again in the near future, and I will even bring Hubs next time! Have you ever been to Ottawa? What was your favorite part?
