I don’t think there is another holiday that we have more fun with in our house then Halloween.  We decorate the house inside and out, from inflatables to motion sensor talking decorations we have it all. Talk of picking out costumes starts in September and the inflatable decorations go up on our front lawn.  Halloween is more then a day, it is a season!  And this year we had a street pumpkin party as well as our own Halloween party to spread the fun out even more.  I wanted to share a easy Halloween party game idea that we used this fall that let the kids be creative and have some fun exploring too.

I picked up some Halloween foam shapes from my local dollar store for this project.  I found large shapes that the kids could decorate including pumpkins, spider webs and bats.  I also picked up some smaller peel-and-stick shapes for decorating.  You could use gems, markers or even puff paint if you have the time to decorate them.
Once you are done and they are ready, head outside and hide the decorations around the yard.  Equip each child with a flash light and head out to hunt for your decorations.  You can have them find their own and collect them, or just hunt to spot as many as they can.

With all the fun and activities around this time of year also comes those dark fall nights.  As the days get shorter it is important to remember to stay safe even when having Halloween fun.  Duracell and the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) are helping to remind Canadians families to stay safe this Halloween and have shared Halloween safety tips for trick-or-treating.

Halloween Safety Tips

Dangerous Décor: Opt for setting a spooktacular scene and stay away from dangerous decor.  I love taking the kids trick-or-treating and seeing all of the carved pumpkins.  We ditched the traditional candle and have opted a battery powered one instead to reduce the fire hazard risk and prevent singed fingers (been there, done that – ouch!).  A small flashlight works well too.  Using a long lasting battery like a Duracell Coppertop Battery will help keep them powered all night long.Easy Halloween Party Game Idea - Nighttime Halloween Hunt via LittleMissKate.ca
Don’t Blow It: When it comes to powering Halloween decorations, it’s easy to go overboard. But overloading extension cords and breakers is a fire hazard and will ruin the night. Be mindful of the decorations being used and how much power is needed.  We have a mix of plug-in and battery powered decor to help make our house the spookiest on the block.
Costume Considerations: When selecting this year’s Halloween costume, pick brightly coloured costumes that can be clearly seen by motorists. I will be adding reflective tape to Monkey’s black ninja costume to make him more visible.

Light the way: Make sure everyone in the Halloween trick-or-treating party has a flashlight and trust that on Halloween they will have the power to light their way home with a Duracell Coppertop Battery.  Not only does having a flashlight make everyone more visible it also lights the way so you can safely see while going up or down steps or avoid puddles if it is raining.  It is always a good idea to stay in well-lit areas and only visit homes with their lights turned on
Strength in Numbers: It is always advised to have a parent present while trick-or-treating.  Going out as a group can be a fun way to spend some time with your neighbours. The safest option is to limit trick-or-treating to well-known neighbourhoods.
Quality Control: Make sure kids resist the urge to sample the spoils of trick-or-treating until an adult has inspected the candy to see if it has been tampered with.
