Shopping for birthday presents for kids can be tricky for even the most veteran shopper. Whether it is for your niece who is growing up so fast, or a classmate of your child who you have never met before, coming up with the “perfect” birthday gift that they will love and use is a challenge. I hate giving gift cards or money, they just feel too impersonal. My “Go To” gift idea for kids has always been books. I have mentioned before that it has been a long standing tradition to buy my nephews books for Christmas and their birthdays.
I had the pleasure of shopping at Indigo Kids for a birthday present recently – and it really is a one stop shop for gifts for kids. The shopping experience at Indigo Kids is one of a kind, Monkey and I spent over 1 ½ hours reading, playing and browsing.
- The atmosphere is relaxed and family friendly, with nice wide isles (perfect for strollers) and areas set up with tables & chairs for you to sit and read a book or two as a family
- The staff at Indigo Kids were AMAZING, they were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and kept the store looking neat and organized (no easy feat I am sure)
- The layout of the story is easy to navigate with areas dedicated to different age groups, which makes shopping for an age appropriate gift a breeze
- Indigo Kids offers way more than just books, they have a wonderful selection of toys including Melissa & Doug, and LEGO. On top of all that they offer free gift wrapping, a service I gladly took advantage of
Our mission during our trip to Indigo Kids was to pick up some books for 2 little ones with birthdays coming up: Baby L turning 1 and G.W. turning 3. I asked for direction to the Robert Munch and Dr. Suess books, and right away the staff pointed me in the direction of a book display with both authors side by side. It was like they knew exactly what I would be shopping for!

Now I sometimes have trouble buying for children who are older than Monkey, but browsing the 3-5 years old section Monkey picked out another classic: Curious George. We had them wrapped and were checked out in no time.
Don’t have an IndigoKids near you, or prefer to browse from your computer with coffee in hand? They make it easy to shop online, and offer free shipping on all orders over $25.
