I love taking part in baking exchanges.  They are a fun way to get to try new new treats without having to make the recipes yourself.  When I worked in an office we would have a couple of baking exchanges a year where each person would make up 3-4 dozen of one type of treat.  Then you would get a mix of goodies back to enjoy.  Some people are daunted by baking exchanges because you need to make lots of one item.  Well the key to a good baking exchange is finding a recipe that you are comfortable with and then scaling it up.  For me, I look for easy baking exchange recipes with a little bit of a “wow” factor.  Butter Tarts are a sweet indulgence that remind me of my childhood.  My Grandma always had butter tarts at her house.  Now my Grandma’s butter tarts were store bought, but I learned from my mom just how easy Butter Tarts are to make.  Adding a little maple twist to these butter tarts takes up the deliciousness factor without making it more work.  If you are looking for an easy baking exchange recipe, or just a dessert to enjoy at home, give these Maple Butter Tarts a try!Easy Baking Exchange Recipe - Maple Butter Tarts Recipe via LittleMissKate.ca

Maple Butter Tarts Recipe - Easy Baking Exchange Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Butter softened
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 cup Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 cup Corn Syrup
  • 12 unbaked Tart Shells
  • 1/2 cup Raisins

Instructions

  • Place Tart Shells on cookie sheet (I lined mine with foil for ease of clean up, as sometimes the tarts boil over a little) and place raisins in the bottom - you your discretion for the amount. Love raisins? Then load them up!
  • Cream butter and brown sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in egg and vanilla.
  • Blend in Maple Syrup and Corn Syrup. Then pour mixture into tart shells.
  • Bake at 375 F (190 C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Enjoy!

Now you can make a “regular” batch of these Maple Butter Tarts and enjoy 12 of the most delicious butter tarts you have ever tasted.  However as you can see, even when scaling this recipe up 4x I can fit all them in my oven at one time to bake which minimizes the time required to make these when baking for an exchange.

If you don’t love raisins (gasp) then you can leave them out.  Alternatively, if you love nuts you could add in some chopped walnuts or pecans to the tart shells before adding in the filling.  And if by some crazy twist of fate you don’t like maple flavour, then you can swap out the 1/2 cup of maple syrup for corn syrup instead.  But really, who doesn’t love maple syrup?!?
