As we are finishing up fall, and heading into winter, there are mud and leaves everywhere. Seriously I think I had more leaves in my front hall last week then I did on my lawn! It can seem nearly impossible to keep the house clean, especially with kids around. They sure do know how to track dirt around. Combine the kids with a husband that works in construction… the battle never ends.
While we battle the dirt and mud that comes with Fall, here are some ways to get your house fresh and clean and ready for the upcoming holiday season.
3 Steps To Help Get Your House Ready For The Holidays
• Tackle the laundry – Get your laundry clean without using up all your hot water by using Arm & Hammer™ Cold Water Liquid Laundry Detergent. The perfume and dye free version is my favorite, as it powers out dirt and odours to get our clothes nice and clean. I try to do 1 load of laundry a day (even if it doesn’t get folded) that way no one is running out of socks. And as you are pulling out the winter clothes you may notice they smell a bit stuffy, give them a quick wash to freshen them up again.
• Polish things up – If you are hosting any family meals or parties this holiday season take a look at your serving platters and utensils now. You don’t want to be caught the day of the party needing to polish your silverwear. Make a baking soda paste using 3 parts ARM & HAMMER™ baking soda to 1 part water. Rub onto silver with a clean cloth or sponge until tarnish disappears and then rinse. An easy task to get out of the way ahead of time.
• Purge the toys – Now is the time to go through and get rid of toys that your kids don’t play with or have grown out of. Make sure you go through areas like the basement, living room and bedroom as toys tent to get “tucked away” only to never be played with again. And take a good hard look at how many toys and books your kids have. Do they really need 30 cars? Or would 10 be more then enough? If so get rid of the rest. You know you are only going to be get more toys in less then a month!
