Summer has arrived which means things are about to get crazy! Kids are home from school, vacations are planned and it’s time to get out and enjoy the sunshine. If you are anything like me you have your summer all booked up. On my days off I want to be sure I am outside and enjoying the sunshine. With all of the craziness, it can be hard to find the time to take care of yourself. Remember, having fun this summer also means staying healthy! Here are a few tips to ensure your summer kicks off without a hitch. There is nothing worse than getting ready for a summer vacation and getting sick.
How To Have A Healthy And Happy Summer
Water is your friend.
Drinking lots of water will keep you hydrated and help cool you down on those hot, humid days. It’s important to refuel your body so you can keep your energy levels up! I know I feel better when I am well hydrated. If you are not a fan of drinking plain tap water then you must try this Cantalope Cooler. The water content in cantaloupe make this drink refreshing and hydrating.
Grab that Vitamin D.
Worshipping the sun gods is good for you – in moderation of course! Throughout those long winter months, we often find ourselves craving the warm embrace of the sun. When you expose your bare skin to the sun your body absorbs Vitamin D which is essential for bone health. Find a stylish sun hat, wear sunscreen and rock some cool shades while outdoors to protect you and your kids from the harmful rays. During peak times, go inside or find some shade and cool off.
Don’t Forget your Vitamins.
In the winter, we always make sure to take our daily vitamins to keep ourselves as healthy as possible during those cold months, but it’s just as important to maintain this routine in the summer. Spend those glorious days of freedom feeling your best. Vitafusion™ Men’s Complete Multivitamin and Women’s Complete Multivitamin are a quick and delicious way to ensure you get your daily dose of vitamins all year round!
Try new foods.
Summer is the perfect excuse to expand your diet. With so many wonderful and tasty fruits and vegetables in season, there are a ton of options to meet every need. Strawberry’s are at their prime in June, which means not only are they at their best, but they’re also readily available at a good price! Make sure you try out a local farmer’s market to see what else is available in your region. Many farms will even deliver to your door. Make a game out of it by trying one new fruit or vegetable the next time you go to the grocery store. You and your kids will love it.
The cold months of winter make it hard to get motivated to do anything active, especially outside. Shed those excuses this summer and head outside! Walking through trails, going for a run or even gardening in your backyard. Contact your local naturalist club and see what activities they have planned. Many offer free (or very cheap) programming and guided hikes.
Remember to stay healthy and have a happy summer!
