With Earth day just behind us lots of people have been chatting about making healthier choices for themselves, their families and the environment. Making healthy and eco-savvy choices is not always easy – the products can be hard to find, or more expensive than their conventional counterparts which is hard when you are on a budget. The Healthy Shopper recognizes this, and is lending a helping hand!
The Healthy Shopper is a FREE coupon book that helps take a bite out of the cost of making healthy choices. Co-founders Randy Boyer and Andrea Donsky wanted to encourage more Canadians to make the switch to a naturally healthy lifestyle while staying on budget. The Healthy Shopper coupon booklet can be found in store, as well as there are a selection of printable coupons available from their website.
I was sent a selection of Healthy Shopper Top Picks for 2012 and wow was I impressed. In my sampler kit I received the following:
Kiju 100% certified organic juices & Teas – Since their launched on Earth Day in 2005 Kiju has offered a great selection of organic juices with no added sugar. With flavours like apple, pomergranate cherry, lemonade and mango orange you are sure to find one that everyone will love. The Pomegranate Iced Green Tea was the perfect drink after a day working in the garden.
Simply Natural Pasta Sauce – Certified organic tomato sauces that are perfect for pasta or pizza. Varieties include Tomato with Roasted Garlic, Red Wine Marinara Sauce, and Tomato & Basil. Pasta is a quick and family friendly meal, and with Simply Natural you can be sure that you are getting the freshest organic vegetables and herbs grown without pesticides and herbicides. I am looking forward to making some lasagna with this sauce.
Natracare – for the ladies in the house Natracare offers a great line of feminine hygiene products from panty liners, pads and tampons. Natracare products are made from 100% certified organic cotton and natural cellulose materials. Not only are they plastic and chlorine-free, they are also bio-degradable and compostable. I have used Natracare products in the past and was very satisfied with their performance, and appreciate the fact that they are better for my body and the environment.
Ecover – This great line of plant and mineral-based cleaning products offers you a great alternative to using chemicals for cleaning your home and clothes. All Ecover products are safe for septic tanks, phosphate-free and not tested on animals. Although hubby would have you believe that I NEVER do dishes, that is just not true! The dishwashing liquid worked great on tough to clean dishes, and dried on food. And the laundry detergent has a nice light scent, we tend to stay away from most scented laundry detergents now as I find them so strong, but Ecover has a nice fresh scent without being over powering.
You can find many of these products at your local retailers including Loblaws, Metro or Whole Foods.
Be sure to check out 2012/2013 The Health Shopper Coupon Booklet which will be available in stores in May! You can also find printable coupons available in their website.
