As much as I love Halloween – the decorations, the chocolate, the costumes and the pumpkins there is one part of Halloween I don’t like… Dealing with the pumpkin guts. That is right this mama of 2 boys has dealt with a lot of gross things over the years but nothing quiet bothers me like the cold slimy insides of a pumpkin. Not sure if it is how they leave your hands feeling gooey or that itchy feeling I get once the “guts” dry on my skin, in any case this is one job where I defer to Hubs. Once he has cleaned out the pumpkin the next challenge becomes how to contain and store the pumpkin gut mess until garbage day.
Like many municipalities we have green bin organics pick up, which means I need to find a place to keep the pumpkin innards where they will be contained, not stink the house up and not cause an even greater mess by breaking though the compostable bag. When I was approached by GLAD to take part int he GLAD Gruesome Challenge, a challenge to see how GLAD Compostable Bags hold up against the wet gooey mess of Pumpkin Carving, I was interested to see how they would hold up.Hubs stepped up and did the “honour” of cleaning out the pumpkin. We placed all of the guts in the GLAD bag in the container on our counter and waited for garbage day to come around. Sitting on my counter for days there was no smell at all, and the GLAD bag held up to the tough job of containing all of the pumpkin guts until garbage day. Bye Bye pumpkin guts!
